Dengue and dengue hemorrhagic fever.
Continued geographic expansion of dengue viruses and their mosquito vectors has seen the magnitude and frequency of epidemic dengue/dengue hemorrhagic fever (DF/DHF) increase dramatically. More than 200,000,000 infections and over 2 million cases of DHF occur annually, and dengue is one of the most important emerging tropical diseases in the world. Its dramatically increased incidence and geogr...
متن کاملDengue and dengue hemorrhagic fever.
Dengue fever, a very old disease, has reemerged in the past 20 years with an expanded geographic distribution of both the viruses and the mosquito vectors, increased epidemic activity, the development of hyperendemicity (the cocirculation of multiple serotypes), and the emergence of dengue hemorrhagic fever in new geographic regions. In 1998 this mosquito-borne disease is the most important tro...
متن کاملDengue Virus 3 Genotype 1 Associated with Dengue Fever and Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever, Brazil
Dengue serotype 3 viruses were isolated from patients in Brazil from 2002 through 2004. On the basis of phylogenetic analyses, these isolates were assigned genotype 1. This genotype had never been reported in South America before. Its appearance indicates a major risk factor for dengue epidemics and severe disease.
متن کاملDengue Hemorrhagic Fever and Dengue Shock Syndrome
The Dengue virus is an arbovirus, from genus Flavivirus family Flaviviridae. It is a single stranded RNA genome surrounded by an icosahedral nucleocapsid and covered by lipid envelope. Four serotypes: DEN-1, 2, 3, 4 have been identified for the virus. Each serotype provides specific lifetime immunity, but only a shortterm cross-immunity. All serotypes can cause severe and fatal disease. In the ...
